About the teacher:
I am have been a professional belly dance performer and instructor for seven years. I'm a mother, formerly a teacher at public and private elementary schools, and director of troupe Aubergine. If your child loves this dance, I would love to continue  classes with an Egyptian folkloric stick dance, an Indian folkloric dance, and others. Perhaps your child would like to perform with Aubergine  at the Faerie Festival, Artscape, and at nursing home shows. www.AubergineBellyDance.com

Teaching reviews:

Nina is a fantastic teacher! Not only does she teach fantastic veil technique, but she also helps to improve your stage performance with tips for handling the unexpected.
--Dawn V., workshop participant

While I haven't seen Nina 'perform', she was a superlative instructor at an event I went to. Knowledgeable, understanding, and very funny, she has a great presence (and an even better one on for the stage). I would love to see her perform one day!

-- Albert Lin

You are by far the best instructor I ever met.  I only understood the way you taught.
-- Wai Ping Ng (Liz)

Nina- I took your Arabian Belly Dancing Class tonight at the Carver Center and I had to tell you just how much I enjoyed myself. I can tell already that you are a fantastic teacher and it will make learning the moves much easier for the students. You dance beautifully. I cannot wait until the next class! This has been something that I have been wanting to do for a long time, I just wish that I had signed up for your class sooner! Thanks!
-Erin

I LOVE your teaching style. You are wonderful! I am so sorry I did not sign up for both classes so I could come for 3 hours. - Nora

I truly enjoyed your class. I think you are an excellent teacher. You are able to provide detailed instruction, yet can go with the flow when the veil does what it wants to and not what you intended. You are patient and fun.
- Marty

My favorite thing about your veil course was your enthusiasm. You are a great teacher and so willing to share your wealth of information. I especially liked learning a new move - the 5 star. I would highly recommend your class to a friend. - Donna

Performance reviews:

Can I say what a pleasure it was meeting you and having you dance for me? It truly was one of the highlights for me. Can't wait till the next time I get to see you perform.

-- Joseph Castelli  Sitar player in Ever After
...you are so much, much more beautiful than in your pictures. I am not at all saying I didn't think you were lovely, but in person the combination of your personality, your grace and your looks are pretty well unbelievable.
--CeCe, patron at Mosaic cafe

For the Troupe:
OMG Nina! We have GOT to have you all back next year. You were so AWESOME! People won't stop raving about the fantastic belly dancers at the 2011 Multiple Sclerosis Fantasy Ball! You and your team totally blew me away!!
--Joy Halcott, event director

Special Workshop for Dancelexics

Belly Dance for Nondancers

Want to learn to bellydance, but you are afraid you can't follow the directions?
I teach a workshop designed for you!
Nina Amaya, professional dancer with dancelexia.  When I was learning, I tuned left when everyone else went right, I was always on the wrong foot, and couldn't  remember a sequence of steps.  And I overcame it!
As an elementary school teacher I studied different learning styles, and I'll help you to find your dance learning style. In a workshop limited to ten students, we'll go over some of the basic and not-so-basic moves.
This class is limited to those who find it hard to learn, or those teachers who want to learn how to teach dancelexics. It will be supportive and fun.

Find the way to express yourself through this beautiful art form.
